SOCKO! SCOOP — BREAKING NEWS!
SOCKO! has confirmed that Jon Crowley has been terminated as Executive Director of the New Jersey Motion Picture & Television Commission, effective Friday at 3 PM.
Crowley was appointed to the role in 2024 and has been the public face of New Jersey’s unprecedented production surge: the $1 billion Netflix buildout at Fort Monmouth, Paramount’s decade-long lease at 1888 Studios in Bayonne, Lionsgate’s $101M Newark buildout, Steven Spielberg’s $34M Disclosure Day shoot across ten Jersey towns, and the state’s climb to number two in film jobs added nationwide.
The timing is seismic. The termination comes just days after the historic Motion Picture, Television, and Entertainment Revitalization Act was introduced in Congress, the first federal film tax credit in American history. Combined with New Jersey’s existing state program, qualifying NJ productions were about to be eligible for stackable incentives of 50%+. The Commission’s leadership at this moment matters more than it has in a generation.
Succession plans have not yet been announced. This is a developing story. SOCKO! will update as more information becomes known.
